Intelligence Levels in Relation with Academic Achievement Among Senior Secondary School Students in Kondagaon District, Chhattisgarh

Abstract

The present study investigates the relationship between Intelligence Levels and Academic Achievement among senior secondary school students in Kondagaon District, Chhattisgarh. Intelligence plays a vital role in determining students’ reasoning ability, comprehension, learning efficiency, and academic success. The study was conducted on a sample of 600 senior secondary school students selected from English medium and Hindi medium schools through stratified random sampling technique. The General Mental Ability Test developed by Roma Pal and Rama Tiwari (2018) was used for measuring Intelligence Levels, while Academic Achievement was assessed through students’ Class 10 Board Examination marks. The findings revealed that students possessing high Intelligence Levels achieved significantly better Academic Achievement than students possessing low Intelligence Levels. Female students demonstrated comparatively higher Intelligence Levels and Academic Achievement than male students. Similarly, English medium students scored higher in Intelligence Levels and Academic Achievement than Hindi medium students. The study also reported a significant positive relationship between Intelligence Levels and Academic Achievement. The findings emphasize the importance of cognitive development and intellectual enrichment for improving educational performance among senior secondary school students.
